چکیده

The absorption and fluorescence properties of a barbiturate-type donor-pi-acceptor (D-pi-A) merocyanine dye are controlled by complexation with dimeric melamine receptors featuring different tether lengths.

Non-covalent synthesis of organic nanostructures

This review describes the synthesis, characterization and functionalization of hydrogen bonded, box-like assemblies. These assemblies are formed upon mixing bismelamine calix[4]arenes with a complementary barbiturate in apolar solvents. Various techniques for the characterization have been used, like 'H NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography and a novel MALDI-TOF MS technique. The use of cyanu...

The effects of supramolecular assembly on exciton decay rates in organic semiconductors.

We present time-resolved photoluminescence measurements on two series of oligo-p-phenylenevinylene (OPV) materials that are functionalized with quadruple hydrogen-bonding groups. These form supramolecular assemblies with thermotropic reversibility. The morphology of the assemblies depends on the way that the oligomers are functionalized; monofunctionalized OPVs (MOPVs) form chiral, helical stac...

Supramolecular blueprint approach to metal-coordinated capsules.

An important problem in designing any large network is the assembly of systems that are resilient to change. From a chemical point of view, an analogy can be used where one requires supramolecular assemblies to maintain their dimensionality combined with limited structural perturbation in response to variation in its intermolecular framework. The identification of hydrogen-bonded framework patt...

Self-Assembly through Hydrogen Bonding: Peripheral Crowding-A New Strategy for the Preparation of Stable

The self-assembly of two new types of stable hydrogen-bonded supramolecular aggregates-bisrosettes-that are based on parallel, connected CA3.M3 rosettes is reported. The minimization of intermolecular steric hindrance-peripheral crowding within the aggregate-is proposed as the structural feature responsible for selecting the cyclic CA3'M3 rosette over competing linear hydrogen-bonded networks a...

Hydrogen bonded supramolecular polymers in moderately polar solvents.

Hydrogen bonded assemblies are usually decomposed by polar organic solvents. However, we have succeeded in preparing a strongly associated supramolecular polymer which forms viscous solutions in competitive solvents such as tetrahydrofuran.
